Is Davion Mitchell Related to Donovan Mitchell?

NBA fans everywhere know the name Davion Mitchell, especially those whose team is the Sacramento Kings. 

Donovan Mitchel’ is another household name for basketball fans siding with the Cleveland Cavs. Both b-ballers were born in the mid-90s, and both have mad skills on the court. 

For those reasons and more, it’s easy to automatically assume that Davion and Donovan are related. Although ‘Mitchell’ is a fairly common last name, maybe these guys are in fact brothers, or at the very least, cousins.

So is Davion Mitchell related to Donovan Mitchell? Let’s find out. 

Sacramento Kings Player Davion Mitchell

Davion was born in 1998 in Hinesville, Georgia. It was very clear that this guy was destined for the NBA even in his high school years. He averaged almost 25 points per game as well as 7 assists and 3 steals – and that was just as a junior. 

After high school, Davion played for Auburn but received some pretty sweet offers from Clemson, Cincinnati, UConn, and more. He played at Auburn for a few years before announcing that he was a part of the 2021 draft. 

Mitchell was the 9th pick in the 1st round of the draft. He signed with Sacramento and accomplished some amazing things during his first season, including:

Cleveland Cavaliers Player Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell was born in 1996 in Elmsford, New York. He grew up in a professional sports environment thanks to his dad working closely with the New York Mets. 

During high school, Donovan was very serious about baseball as well as basketball. He eventually made basketball his focus, which clearly worked out in his favor. 

Don was interested in much more than athletics in high school, though. He transferred to Brewster Academy and got involved in the student government and musical theater. Basketball had his heart, though, and he was recruited by the University of Louisville in 2015. 

Don’s Professional Career

Now, Don plays as a shooting guard for the Cavs. He was the 13th pick of the first round in the 2017 NBA draft and currently holds three All-Star awards. At that time, he was drafted to the Denver Nuggets, but was traded soon after to the Utah Jazz. 

Don started playing for the Cavaliers after a few successful seasons in Utah. He made his Cleveland debut in October 2022 by scoring an impressive 31 points against Toronto. 

He remained a high-scorer throughout the year, and Cavs fans are expecting big things from him next season.

Is Davion Mitchell Related to Donovan Mitchell?

Back to the question at hand… Are Davion and Donovan related in any way?

The short answer is, no, these two professional athletes are not blood related. Even so, they have a ton in common other than the fact that they both play the same position in the NBA. 

Funny enough, their birthdays are just two days apart – Davion’s on 9/5 and Donovan’s on 9/7. They also have the same initials, similar backgrounds, and similar journeys in the NBA.
