Site Access

What are the best browsers/OS configuration to view/use this site?

This site optimized for Firefox 2+, Safari 2+, and IE 7 (in that order). We ask that you please enable javascript and cookies or the site will not function properly. It runs well on both OS's but it will look and function better on Firefox for Mac.

Why should I use a real email address?

Using a real email will allow you to get notifications, but more importantly, you need this to generate a new password in case you forget it (and you most likely will at some point). Don't worry, we won't publish your email address anywhere on the site.

I forgot my password.

You can use our password recovery feature to reset your password. If you're still having trouble, you may always contact us.

How do I change my password?

Login to your account and click on 'Account' located in your control panel. Select password from the menu and fill out the form to change your password.

How do I invite someone to join design:related?

Login to your account and go to your profile. Underneath your profile picture is an action menu and one entry allows you to invite a friend to join our network. Invite any designers you know including: Architects, Interior Designers, Industrial Designers, Graphic, Motion, Interactive, 3D Artists, Fashion, basically anybody that uses their mind in a creative way to solve problems.

How do I deactivate my account?

Sigh, if you must, login to your account and click on 'Account' located in your control panel. Select deactivate from the menu and click 'Yes'. If you deactivate your account, we may have an awkward silence period of two weeks to a month. We still love you, but we need time to get over you.

If and when you decide to come back to us, and we know you will, you can sign up again. We won't hold any grudges.

Features

How do I find for other users?

You can use the search field in the top right section of your window to search for people. If who you're searching for does not appear in the results you may always invite them using our invite feature. You must be logged in order to invite someone.

What is my Sphere of Influence?

Your sphere of influence is a calculation of how many members list you as an influence. We are working to allow users to see who they influence.

What are inspirations?

Your inspirations tool allows you to post entries about what inspires you. It also lists your influences on the site (members) and allows you to post what you're currently working on, listening to, etc... We plan on continuing to explore this feature, so please check back for future updates.

What are posts?

Posts are similar to the way that digg handles news, except we run things a little differently. We're all about design-related news, so sharing and voting is a way to create a democratic news and content system for our users. It's a resource that allows users to post to a number of different design-related categories.

How do I add Friends?

You can add friends by viewing profiles and clicking on the action menu underneath their profile picture. If your friend or colleague is not listed on the site you can invite them by using our invite feature.

How do I add projects to my portfolio?

Login to your account and click on 'my portfolio' from your control panel. In the top left you will see a button to 'add new project'. Press this and fill out the form to add a project. You may upload up to 3 images per project, which appear in the portfolio when you click on the first detail image. This activates the sequence of images (ex: 1 of 3). The current limit is 30 projects with image sizes maxing out at 500kb each.
