Wood Materials Laboratory

This project challenged me to design a new home for the WSU Woods Materials and Engineering Laboratory on the WSU Pullman campus. In addition to the research facilities, the new institution required classrooms, offices, and community spaces to inspire collaboration and social interaction.
Research facilities have demanding requirements as personnel, tasks, functions, stages, and resources are continually changing. The spaces that facilitate this research must be able to adapt to every need that may arise, so the institution will not become obsolete. The education spaces require a rigid and regulated environment, so students can easily find their classes and the instructors have a consistent teaching environment. My solution facilitates both demands in a unified space while creating a prominent new home for the Materials Laboratory, and a welcoming environment for students.
