Girl on the Rocks wins a National Outdoor Book Award in the instructional category (at bottom): http://www.noba-web.org/books09.htm

"Katie Brown is one of the foremost female climbers in the world and
couldn't be better suited to write this book.  It's a very well done
"how-to" guide, embellished with a classy, contemporary design and
crisp I-wanna-do-that photographs.  What's so appealing about this book
is that it speaks to women with a woman's voice.  Climbing, as Brown
says is empowering, and through her words and example, she inspires
women to try new things, live a full life and climb away."

Girl on the Rocks is designed to inspire women intrigued by the sport, but intimidated by its male dominance and stereotype as "extreme;" to instruct women on technique, strength, and mental agility from a woman's perspective; and to empower women to climb harder and with more courage. Written for any woman interested or involved in the sport, Girl on the Rocks will inspire, instruct, and empower women of all ages and ability to get psyched and climb on.

Author Katie Brown is the young woman who Rock & Ice magazine dubbed "The Best Female Climber of the Millennium". She began climbing at age 13 and quickly dominated competition at the national and international level. Now in her mid-20s, she is a freelance writer, author of the book Vertical World (Falcon), and continues to travel the world as an elite professional climber.
