This is a project I began during my final semester of school. The inspiration for this series came from constantly being bombarded by advertisements in which the imagery and the the message represent a major contradiction.
The McDonald's advertisements where everyone is miraculously fit. The SUV commercials depicting the vehicles off-roading through nature. The herpes medication commercials where everyone is both attractive and annoyingly pleased with themselves.
In these, I attempt to juxtapose the imagery with the message as much as possible so that the contradiction is immediately apparent. However, because the hypocrisy of these major campaigns are not obviously jarring, I make the text look as though it is part of the image so it does not look out of place.
The proportion of these pieces is also a direct reference to the billboards that many of these ad campaigns occupy. I also restrict myself to only using stock photography, as the same photography is often used to make the misleading ads that these pieces mimic.
