Job Description:

Web Designer

Design, produce and maintain various client websites and contribute to the overall Web Communications strategy and special projects. While this job’s primary responsibility is website design and development, graphic designers with excellent design capabilities would also fill the needs of this position. Attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem-solving are a must.

Primary responsibilities

* Create/design website prototypes, including graphic design, site navigation, and layout of content
* Ensure that the layout of the website content is accessible and logical; recommend improvements if necessary
* Create visual concepts that match the content and the image wanted by the clients while ensuring easy site navigation
* Build websites using technologies that conform to international standards and make sure that they are universally accessible.
* Perform maintenance and updates to existing websites when requested by clients
* Provide training on maintenance and update procedures to clients who choose to take charge of their own websites
* Update client websites whenever updates, patches, or version upgrades are released
* Stay current with Joomla updates, extensions updates, and any new releases of features
* Contribute to the overall upkeep and development of the company’s website


Additional experience preferred

* Flash development – flash 2.0 and/or 3.0
* Experience working in a marketing environment or other marketing and advertising related design
* Print material design experience
* Knowledge of XHTML, JavaScript, PHP and dynamic HTML
* Knowledge and experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
* Ability to work in a team and communicate in a clear way to provide training to staff and faculty.
* Knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design, and experience with web database solutions definite assets.
