abito | intelligent living spaces
As I am working on designs for modular & efficient living spaces for my studio project, I keep coming back to abito living spaces. I'm really into their idea of compact living that can be customized for each resident.
The intention is to "...create an apartment for young professionals that embraces the needs of modern city living. This required us to perfect an apartment typology and use this to construct a building from the inside out, rather than starting with a building and then carving it up."

The Rear Window
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite movies for multiple reasons. The story line is great, it's actually quite funny, and the set is amazing (it was 1 set built in its entirety, and one of the largest ever constructed!) The social analysis is really interesting... I couldn't imagine watching my neighbors for weeks at a time, naming them all, creating a history for each of them. Then again, it might be fun!
"Intelligence. Nothing has caused the human race so much trouble as intelligence."

Zoomscape
I went to a lecture by Mitchell Schwarzer a few years back. He was my architectural history professor's mentor at Berkley, a very smart and interesting guy. So I picked up the book, for something to read in all my free time (haha.) It turned out to be a great read! It looks at our architectural experiences through different lenses:
"... The perception of architecture has been fundamentally altered by the technologies of transportation and the camera -- we now look at buildings, neighborhoods, cities, and even entire continents as we ride in trains, cars, and planes, and/or as we view photographs, movies, and television."

I have become fascinated with psychogeography, and the theory of the dérive for my studio project. This map is a result of my drifting through downtown Spokane with a map of Portland, Oregon.
